On the imaginary Greek island of Kalokairi, 20-year-old lady of the hour to-be Sophie Sheridan uncovers to her bridesmaids, Ali and Lisa, that she has covertly welcomed three men to her wedding without telling her mom, Donna ("Honey, Honey"). They are the men with whom her mom's journal uncovers she engaged in sexual relations during the 25-day time frame that was incidental with Sophie's origination. They are Irish-American draftsman Sam Carmichael, Swedish swashbuckler and essayist Bill Anderson and British broker Harry Bright. She trusts that her dad will walk her down the passageway on her important day and accepts that after she invests energy with them, she will realize which is her dad.
Donna, who claims an estate and runs it (not effectively) as an inn, expecting a superior life, perhaps because of a man ("Money, Money, Money"), is elated to rejoin with her lifelong companions and previous Dynamos bandmates, leg-pulling creator Rosie Mulligan and well off various divorced person Tanya Chesham-Leigh. She uncovers her bewilderment at her girl's craving to get hitched and flaunts the manor to Rosie and Tanya. The three men show up and Sophie conceals them in the old goat house. She doesn't uncover that she accepts that one of them is her dad, yet makes sense of that it was her who sent the wedding solicitations, not her mom. She advises them to stow away with the goal that Donna will be astonished by the lifelong companions of whom she "so frequently" well talks. They hear Donna working and swear that they won't uncover Sophie's confidential.
Donna keeps an eye on them and is astounded to wind up confronting her previous sweethearts ("Mamma Mia"), requesting that they leave. She trusts in Tanya and Rosie ("Chiquitita") that she genuinely doesn't know which of the three fathered Sophie. Tanya and Rosie rally her spirits by inspiring her to hit the dance floor with an all-female gathering of staff and islanders ("Dancing Queen"). Sophie tracks down the men on board Bill's boat, and they sail around Kalokairi, recounting accounts of Donna's lighthearted youth ("Our Last Summer"). Sophie plans to tell her life partner, Sky, about her ploy however loses her nerve. Sky and Sophie uncover their adoration for one another ("Lay All Your Love on Me"), however Sky is immediately whisked away to his unhitched male party.
